Powder coating is a superior
finish that's found on hundreds of products you come in contact
with each day. It makes products durable, attractive, scratch-resistant,
and long-lasting, giving consumers and manufacturers more for
their money. Powder coating is a high-quality finish which
is environmentally friendly ... virtually pollution free.
Powder coating is a completely
dry finishing process. Finely ground particles of pigment and
resin are electrostatically charged and sprayed onto the product
to be coated. The products are electrically grounded, so the charged
particles adhere to them until melted and fused into a solid coating
in a curing oven.

Questions frequently asked by customers include: What items can and can’t be coated? Basically we can coat any conductive metal including steel, cast iron, aluminum, stainless, and copper. Because powder is cured at 400 degrees, we cannot coat plastic, wood, or fiberglass. What is the recommended prep procedure? On new production parts we utilize a multi stage phosphate conversion coating prior to applying powder. On most items however, we prefer to start with a media blasted surface which insures a clean foundation and provides the best adhesion. We blast some pieces in house and subcontract larger items to a local blaster. We also allow our customers to provide parts already blasted if they have the capability, in order to reduce cost and turnaround time. What range of colors and finishes are available in powder coating? There has been massive growth in the powder coating industry in the last twenty years especially as paint is being replaced due to cost and environmental concerns. What began as a handful of colors has evolved into thousands and includes finishes such as candies, textures, wrinkles, and special effects. Powder comes in four basic formulations- Polyester, Urethane, Epoxy, and a Hybrid of Epoxy and Polyester. It important to make sure the proper material is used for the application. As an independent shop, we purchase from over two dozen suppliers to get the finishes and quality we require.
